Margie Whiddon, President opened the meeting at 9am. There were 49 members and 11 guests in attendance. The total club membership now is at 106. Margie explained to the new members and guests about our club being one club with two chapters. She also talked about this year’s competition which will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2010 from 10:30-4:30 at the Truman Recreation Center. Also, our annual Expo will take place on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 from 12-3pm at the Colony Cottage Recreation Center. All club members are encouraged to participate in both events. More information can be found on the club’s web site: www.digitalscrapbookingclub.info Margie pointed out that at the tables at the front of the room were some of the winning entries from past years competitions that could be viewed during the break. Margie also mentioned that anyone wanting to order club T-Shirts could get them from Jean Bateman and that the price was $13.00. Lou Leonard passed around a sign-up sheet for helping to register for the competition and Margie passed around a sign-up sheet for the Competition to get an idea of who was participating and how many entries there might be. If a member is participating in the Competition, the cost of your lunch is only $6.00. Anyone else that wishes to attend the luncheon, the cost is $11.00. There will be a workshop on February 20th from 9-Noon on Photoshop Elements. The cost is $10.00 and is open only to club members. Due to the overwhelming response, a sign-up sheet was passed and then 20 numbers (numbers correlating to the name on the sign-up sheet) would be drawn. Cindy Dilks and Rocki Blair volunteered to draw the names as they had not signed up for the workshop. There will be another workshop on March 20th, a refresher in Scrapbook Factory. This is also $10 and only open to members. The participants in this workshop would also be drawn from all interested parties. This drawing would be done by some of the Board Members at a later time and participants will be notified. The details of the Competition were discussed. There will be registration from 10:30 - 11:30; Judging from 11:30-12:30; Viewing of the entries from 12:30 - 1:00; Luncheon from 1:00 - 2:00; and Presentations and Awards from 2:00 to 3:50pm. Margie reviewed the criteria for entries. She reminded everyone to NOT put your name on the entry, decide ahead of time what category you want to enter, and to put the entry in a protective sheet cover. Since there would not be another club meeting until April, the details of the Expo were discussed also. It will be held on March 3 from 12:00 - 3:00pm at the Colony Cottage Recreation Center. From 11:00-12:00 there will be setup. Jean Bateman will give you a table cover and a name tent. Margie reminded all to return these after the event so they can be reused next year. There will be drawings for door prizes and demonstrations. Tom Salerno then gave a presentation on Smilebox. There is free version and a paid version. He explained all the different options: multiple designs, personalization and sharing with others via email. The paid version offers more templates and the DVD option. Also, with the paid version, there are no ads and you get a full screen. Tom demonstrated some of his creations. After a short break, the winners of the Photoshop Elements workshop drawing were announced. They are as follows: Sue Allie, Jean Bateman, Vern Baumruk, Millie Baumruk, Carolyn Brown, Mike Burns, Gloria DeSantis, Pat Finnegan, Kit Fish, Barbara Grill, Anne Hynes, Cathy Johnson, Beverlee Katsoulis, Marge Kucinski, Lou Leonard, Marguerite Manco, Jane McIntire, Nancy Raley, Carolyn Rebholz and Julie Wirtz. That was followed by a presentation by Linda Manson on Heritage Maker, a web-based scrapbooking program. Like Smilebox, there is a free version and a paid version. If you create in Heritage Maker.com you have to pay to print your pages. Linda told us that you can get embellishments in scrapbookgirls.com. She passed around some of her printed creations for us to view. Due to all the business that had to be taken care of at this meeting, there was no time for "Show and Tell" or Margie's "Tip". The meeting was adjourned at 11:00am. Respectfully submitted, Mary Lou Guthrie, Secretary

Jean Bateman mentioned that anyone wanting to order club T-Shirts could get them from her and that the price was $13.00.
Claudia Wood who handles the refreshments for our meetings will be on vacation next month. Lou Leonard volunteered to take care of this for the May meeting.
Judy O'Neill, Treasurer, announced that she has magnetic backs for your name tag available for purchase if desired for the price of $1.00/each. These are not recommended for anyone that has a pace maker.
Several members offered information regarding free programs to help us learn different software.

Today's program, "I Took The Pictures, Now What?" was presented by Barbara Grill. Barbara showed how to bring your photos from your camera into your computer and then how to touch them up. You can use many different programs to fix your photos. Barbara showed us how she fixes her photos using Adobe Photoshop Elements.
After the presentation we took a short break. At this time, we were able to enjoy the projects that members brought to share.
After the break, Margie spent time answering questions. First she explained how to bring your photos into Scrapbook Factory using Vista and Windows 7. You can find your pictures by going to: Computer > Users > User Name (whatever your User Name is on your own computer) > Pictures OR open the drive that has your pictures (as some people keep them on a separate storage drive), select the picture and "copy and paste" or open 2 windows and "drag and drop" into the Scrapbook Factory program.
Lastly, Margie gave us a Scrapbook Factory Tip regarding multiple text boxes. To change font style on multiple text boxes, click on the first text box, hold the SHIFT key and select (click) on all text boxes you want to change, then select the new font style (and size, if desired). All the text boxes will be changed.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:00am.

Digital Scrapbooking Club in The Villages Lake Miona Chapter Meeting May 18, 2010 Minutes
The Lake Miona Chapter of the Digital Scrapbooking Club met on May 18, 2010 at the Lake Miona Regional Recreation Center. Margie Whiddon, President, opened the meeting at 9AM. There were 33 members and 2 guests in attendance. There are 69 paid members for 2010.
Margie started the meeting by sharing 3 projects on display. Nancy Keen brought 2 projects: Decorative vests for wine and liquor bottles and a pop-up birthday card, both made using Scrapbook Factory. Margie brought her finished books from her husband's 80th birthday party.
Before beginning the formal meeting, Margie shared her book project. One copy was printed from Scrapbook Factory on double-sided brochure paper, purchased from Staples (150 sheets for $28.00) and bound with white spiral at Office Depot (spiral binding was $4.50). The second copy was hard-bound and printed by PhotoWorks. She changed all 52 pages to jpeg format to upload into PhotoWorks. She changed all book page templates to single picture format in order to be able to use her scrapbook page layouts. All pages were named so she could insert them into the book templates in the correct order. The 52 page book, including cover, with shipping and tax was $65.00 for one book. Margie decided to print the other 9 copies herself and will let us know what her costs are when she's finished. Both books are beautiful!
The meeting officially began with a welcome to all and introduction of one guest, Lucy, who just happened into our meeting and is very interested in what we do.
Problems with Scrapbook Factory 5 were briefly discussed: Margie is still working on how to do a more complete search with search feature. Sue installed the new program with no problem on her laptop, had to set-up the files on an external drive and copy from there to her desk-top hard drive - the program CDs would not load onto her desk top directly.
Jean Batemen has 4 shirts that have been ordered and not claimed. If you want to order a shirt, see her, they are $13.00.
Judy O'Neill has magnetic backs for our name tags - $1.00.
Lake Miona Chapter has a full slate of officers for 2010. Mulberry Chapter needs a Co- Vice President and a Co-Secretary. Please contact Margie if you are willing to take on one of these positions.
The June 1st meeting, at Mulberry Recreation Center, will be presented by Al - “Where Are My Pictures?”
We are working to form a SIG group for Mac Users within our club. Please let Margie know if you are interested in joining this group.
Judy O'Neill presented this month's project: Making Mini Digital Scrapbooks. Mini- Scrapbooks can be any size you want to make them. They are usually about a single theme or event and make great gifts. Pre-made scrapbooks are available at all craft stores and are easy to work with - printing pages in SBF, then cutting and pasting them into the books. Or, you can create the entire book in SBF, print it and bind it. She is using Scrapbook Factory 4.
As with scrapbook pages, you can work from pre-made templates, resize the pages, insert your pictures, print and add to your book. SBF has a Mini-Scrapbook templatewhich makes a very small book. Or, you can start from scratch, resize the blank page tothe size of the book you are using, add your background, embellishments and photos, print and add to your book. Office Depot can spiral bind books for you, and they have along arm stapler for a stapled binding.
An excellent website for ideas and instructions: making-mini-scrapbooks.com.
We took a break after Judy's presentation and everyone enjoyed refreshments andlooking at the projects brought to share.
After our break Margie shared how to make custom filmstrips for your scrapbook pages or any other presentation you might want to use them for. You start with a black box shape, sized for your photo. “Cut” a hole in the box to make the frame: insert a colorless box with a colored border on top of the black box, round the corners by right clicking the box and reshaping. Select both boxes, go to Object, click cut, the colorless box will now be cut out in the middle of the black box. To make the film holes on either side of the picture: make a small white box, round the corners, size down to fit. Copy this box as many times as needed, line up vertically on either side of the frame, align, group, and even up. Once you have a completed frame, group all together, then copy and paste as many times as you want to create a longer strip. Add pictures and finish.
The meeting was adjourned at 11 AM
Respectfully Submitted,
Rochelle Blair, Secretary
